A Christmas Journey By Hans Wilhelm

A Christmas Journey By Hans Wilhelm

This story is about 2 mice who are searching fo food, but end up meeting baby Jesus Christ. It is obviously a religious book about the start of Christmas. It was pretty cute and touching, and good for young children who are learning the meaning of Christmas. It has cute illustrations and a good story line. Good read.
The setting of A Christmas Journey takes place in Jerusalem during a cold winter night. The story tells of two mice who end up running out of food and in hopes of finding food and shelter they set out on a journey. Along the way Jed and Judith the main characters come across three men on with boxes filled with jewels and coins inside of them, both Jed and Judith want to take the objects but realize that would be stealing which is wrong to do. Eventually Jed and Judith end up falling asleep in the boxes and go on this journey to a small town, once they got there each mouse searched for food but none could be found anywhere. As they came back outside they realized all the towns’ people gathering in the manger so they followed and what came to their surprise was all the food and gifts they had seen the three men carrying with them. For a second they thought about taking the food too, but then the baby turned his head and smiled after Judith gave him her scarf for warmth. In the end both Judith and Jed knew they weren’t going to starve after all because of the good deed they had done for baby Jesus.
In the story, the authors craft used symbolism a lot when describing what the mice Judith and Jed had found when they came across the three men. Such as the three men represent the three wise men as told who brought gifts to baby Jesus the night he was born. Without giving it away the author also told of the gifts the three men brought with them which in a child’s mind this might not clearly be understood what those three gifts actually were or who they were meant for but it was neat to visually imagine those gifts and the description that came through my mind when reading the story. I knew what they were and if I was reading this book to my class near the Christmas I would explain what the gifts are and the meaning of why they brought the gifts to baby Jesus. I could tell that just by reading the title to that the ending tied in really well with the beginning of the story.
At first when reading the story I felt the mood of the characters was given off as being greedy and not really appreciative of what they had. For example, their home, in the beginning, allowed them to be protected from the cold winter, they had food supplied to them and yet when running out of food it almost seemed like they took things granite. I think what the author tried to do throughout the story is prove to Jed and Judith that being sincere to others will help you out. Throughout this journey with the three men it really showed Jed and Judith the gift of giving, like when Judith ended up giving her scarf to baby Jesus to keep warm. That completely changed my point of view on both the characters and really showed that the characters had evolved for the better. The moral of A Christmas Journey is, giving is better than receiving and it also makes you as a person happier knowing that you made someone’s day better.
This story is about two mice who are looking for food. They leave there home, but they didn't expect to witness the greatest thing on earth...the birth of Jesus Christ! I think this story is fun and cute. The illustrations are also very nice. Each page contains a huge amount of color which is what I like to see in a story. I am also a believer in the bible, so when I read they witnessed the birth of Christ I was in aww. This story is great for children who are just beginning to learn about Christ and the beginning of mankind.

Hungry mice join up with three travels who are on their way to "die Kind".
Trying German, I get the story just understand most of the words (still!). Not loving the illustration style.
